The Youth Wondering About the Gender of Angels While the Knowledge Economy Surrounds

If I had as much energy and determination as those who try every possible way not to bring out new inventions, maybe I wouldn’t have felt forced to write these lines today. The fact that there are hidden treasures among the hidden traps of life managed to remain hidden from me for a long time. I now know what I should think, but I don’t know what I should do. Yes, you can congratulate yourself, oh supreme wise person!
The situation I tried to describe with a short text above explains a knot that has become very difficult to solve for our nation and myself. The world has been changing very rapidly for a long time and we are watching… For those who follow the developments in the world even a little, it is very clear what the future is pregnant with… Technological developments have come to directly affect our social, economic, and even psychological state. At this point, on my behalf, I want to return to my main topic by just noting the pit and rottenness in which Turkey is located.
The Real Economy program I watched on journalist Erkan Öz ’s YouTube channel directed me to understand the knowledge economy and the question of how I can benefit from it. Of course, the effect of the economic situation we are in is also very high. Although some stones still do not fall into place, I think it is necessary to take brief notes. It seems that; in the future, I will need to return to this post again and again and update it.
The search for what the new economy or, by its other name, the knowledge economy is led me first to Don Tapscott , who studied psychology, statistics and did his master’s degree in research methods. Born in 1947, a Canadian speaker, author, and consultant specializing in business strategies and organizational changes. I don’t know how much I can express myself if I say that I feel the sadness of having just discovered the 12-point explanation he prepared about the new economy and the knowledge economy in 1996.
Tapscott lists the main features of the new economic model, in which knowledge comes to the fore as the main production factor, as follows.
- The New Economy is a Knowledge Economy: The most important power of businesses is not the production factors, but the knowledge power.
- The New Economy is a Digital Economy: The digital economy, which provides cheaper and more reliable communication, is the cornerstone of the new economy.
- A Virtual World Forms in the New Economy: With the emergence of virtual markets, the form of communication between institutions has changed, shifting from analog to digital. Therefore, economic operation has started to take place in virtual markets.
- The New Economy is a Molecular Economy: In the New Economy, the foundation of businesses is built on the individual. The individual operates on their own, and the new composite infrastructure will expand through teams established by the individual.
- The New Economy is a Network Economy: Countries and businesses establish information infrastructures among themselves. Without computing power, it is impossible for the new economy to operate.
- Intermediaries Will Disappear in the New Economy: Many institutions in the private and public sectors will establish direct contact with their consumers through networks and largely eliminate intermediaries.
- The New Economy is Based on Innovation: The principle of firms is to make the products they produce obsolete themselves. If they do not do it themselves, another firm will realize the innovation.
- The New Economy Blurs the Difference Between Producer and Consumer: New information technologies allow customers to interact more with producers.
- The New Economy is a Global Economy: Knowledge playing a key role creates a single world economy. Globalization cannot be isolated from the new economy.
- New Media Sector: The key sector in the new economy is the media sector, which heavily utilizes information technologies.
- Speed: Speed has become a key variable in terms of business success and economic activities.
- Different Social Problems: The new economy brings along different problems in political, economic, cultural, and security issues.
Even learning now that the definition of the economic process that started to enter our lives increasingly in recent years was made in 1996 is insufficient to explain my blindness. Because it has been almost 10 months since I watched Erkan Öz’s videos, and due to the procrastination disease, I was able to ‘deign’ to look at it only now. As far as I watched from the videos, the sounds of the approaching storm were coming but they did not mean anything.
When I think about what I/we do, what I/we think, what I/we deal with personally and socially, these 12 points create a cold shower effect on me. I shiver, then come to myself, and shiver again. Technological developments and their social and cultural effects as a natural result are finally about to bring the end of the economic model based on the old one. It seems that; this storm will bury those who stake the past, and will advance those who set sail for change/development very quickly… and this post will not end here… hopefully!
